Prime Minister Narendra Modi expresses grief over deadly fire accident at Dhaka’s Shopping Mall

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief and conveyed his condolences to the victims of the massive fire that broke out on Thursday night at a shopping mall in Dhaka that killed at least 46 people. In a letter addressed to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also wished speedy recovery to those injured.

In the letter, Prime Minister Modi further affirmed that as India stands with Bangladesh in this hour of grief, his thoughts and prayers remain with her and the friendly people of Bangladesh, said a press release issued by The High Commission of India in Bangladesh.

At least 46 people were killed, and over 20 others sustained severe injuries by a devastating fire at the Green Cozy Cottage Shopping Mall in Dhaka on Thursday night. Firefighters rescued 70 people, including 42 in unconscious state, from the rooftop and different floors of the seven-storey building on Bailey Road.

The police said the victims include 20 male, 18 female and eight children. Of the victims, 43 persons have been identified.

The police filed a case over the incident on Friday night. The police sources said the case has been filed for death due to negligence.
