The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted another spell of heat wave conditions over eastern and peninsular India.
According to the IMD, heat wave conditions are expected to persist over parts of Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Konkan, Saurashtra, Kutch, coastal Andhra Pradesh including Yanam, and Telangana for the next five days.
From Tuesday to Saturday, hot and humid weather is forecasted for Gangetic West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and Rayalaseema. Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, and Mahe are expected to experience similar conditions from Tuesday to Wednesday, while coastal areas of Gujarat will face heat wave conditions from Tuesday to Thursday. Konkan, Goa, and central Maharashtra will experience warm nights from Thursday to Saturday, with Odisha also experiencing this from Wednesday to Saturday.
East and peninsular India witnessed the first spell of heat wave this year in early April.
A heat wave is defined when the maximum temperature reaches at least 40 degrees Celsius in the plains and at least 30 degrees Celsius in hilly regions.
The IMD has advised people to avoid heat exposure, wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting cotton clothes, cover their heads, and use a cloth, hat, or umbrella for protection.
