BCCI invites applications for Indian men’s team head coach role

May 14, 2024 10:57 AM IST

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Monday that applications are open for the position of the men’s national team head coach. The tenure for this role will begin on July 1 of this year and conclude on December 31, 2027, coinciding with the next 50-over Cricket World Cup.

Following India’s loss in the ICC Cricket World Cup final last November, the current head coach Rahul Dravid was granted an extension until June. This extension aligns with the ICC T20 World Cup scheduled in the West Indies and USA from June 1 to 29.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah, speaking to the press last week, confirmed that Dravid would be eligible to re-apply for the post of the head coach role, adding that his tenure would not be automatically extended.

The deadline for submitting applications is May 27 at 6 PM.

The selection process will involve a comprehensive review of applications, followed by personal interviews and assessments of shortlisted candidates.

BCCI has outlined the qualifications for potential head coaches as follows:

– Minimum 30 Test Matches or 50 ODIs played, or head coaching experience for a full member Test-playing nation for at least 2 years.
– Head coaching experience for an Associate member/IPL Team or equivalent international league/first-class teams’ national A teams for a minimum of 3 years.
– BCCI Level 3 Certification or equivalent.
– Age below 60 years.
