In a vibrant celebration of Hindi literature, Dubai’s Indian community came together to mark the 550th birth anniversary of the revered poet Surdas. The Kirtan Sahitya Sabha, held on May 18th, saw enthusiastic participation from non-resident Indians residing in the UAE.
The event featured performances of Haveli Sangeet, a devotional music tradition pioneered by Surdas himself. Surdas, a 16th-century poet from Mathura, India, is known for his soulful compositions dedicated to Lord Krishna.
Poetry recitals and theatrical presentations by women added another layer of richness to the program, showcasing the enduring appeal of Surdas’ work across generations.
