Srinagar | Haj | Medina | Mecca

The first batch of pilgrims from Srinagar departed for Medina in Saudi Arabia on Thursday to perform Haj.

“We are thankful to the (central) government for extending us all necessary help. We are delighted that Allah has chosen us to perform Haj at such a young age. I will pray for lasting peace and happiness in Kashmir.” a Haj pilgrim said.

The inaugural Haj flight from Delhi carried 285 pilgrims. Kausar Jahan, Chairperson of the Delhi State Haj Committee, stated that improved facilities have been introduced under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, including the ‘Haj Suvidha’ mobile app for pilgrims’ convenience and security. Around 16,500 pilgrims are registered to depart for Haj from Delhi this year.

In Rajasthan’s Pali district, about 80 pilgrims were vaccinated against polio, influenza, and meningitis before their departure. Mohammed Ayyub Khan, State Haj Committee Chairman, highlighted the significance of vaccination, likening it to a life-saver during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Muktesh K Pardeshi, Secretary, Consular, Passport, Visa, and Overseas Indian Affairs, reviewed the Haj preparations in Jeddah and Medina on Tuesday.

Every year, millions of Muslims around the world embark on the sacred pilgrimage to Mecca. The pilgrimage is considered by believers of the Islamic faith to be immensely significant as it allows them to connect with Allah, seek forgiveness, and strengthen their faith.
