The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted wet spell accompanied with thunderstorms; lightning and gusty winds very likely over east and south Peninsular India till May 11.
The IMD also said that hailstorm is very likely over isolated pockets of East Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha, along with squalls (50-60kmph) on May 8 and 9. It has also issued an orange alert in sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim which are likely to get isolated heavy rainfall (64.5-115.5 mm) with squalls (speeding 50-60 kmph) on May 10.
Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning/ gusty winds and hailstorm over Uttarakhand is expected during May 8–12; over Central India during next 2 days; over East and South Peninsular India during next 4-5 days; over Northwest India during May 10–12.
On Tuesday, heat wave conditions prevailed in isolated pockets of Tamil Nadu and Telangana. Temperature in Telangana’s Nizamabad reached 43.6C. The highest maximum temperature of 45.2°C was reported at Barmer (West Rajasthan) over the country.
Additionally, hot and humid weather is very likely to prevail in isolated pockets over Gujarat Region during next 5 days.
