Indian envoy, Japanese speaker discuss strengthening cooperation in education, B2B ties

Indian Ambassador to Japan Sibi George met with the Speaker of the Japanese House of Representatives, Fukushiro Nukaga, on Thursday to explore ways to deepen the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership.

The two leaders discussed strengthening parliamentary exchanges, business-to-business ties, and cooperation in human resources and education during their meeting at the India House in Tokyo.

“Discussed ways for deepening further India-Japan Special Strategic & Global Partnership, including strengthening Parliamentary exchanges, B2B ties, and cooperation in human resources & education matters,” the Indian Embassy in Japan said.

George also received Japan’s Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, Komura Masahiro, on the same day. They discussed enhancing bilateral cooperation in cultural and tourism fields to bolster India-Japan relations further.

“Ambassador @AmbSibiGeorge received H.E. Mr. KOMURA Masahiro, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs and discussed strengthening further India-Japan relations, including enhancing cooperation in cultural & tourism fields,” the Indian Embassy stated.

Meanwhile, the Ambassador participated in a listing ceremony at the Tokyo Stock Exchange on Wednesday, highlighting India’s tremendous growth potential at the event for the BlackRock iShares India Nifty 50 Exchange Traded Fund.

The diplomatic engagements come as the navies of India and Japan commenced their biennial maritime exercise ‘Jimex 24’ this week, aimed at enhancing interoperability between the two forces through complex multi-discipline operations.

The exercise, which has been held since 2012, aims to enhance cooperation and interoperability between the navies of India and Japan, the Ministry of Defence said.

The exercise includes both harbour and sea phases. The harbour phase will comprise professional, sports and social interactions, after which the two navies will jointly hone their war fighting skills at sea and enhance their interoperability through complex multi-discipline operations in the surface, sub-surface and air domains.
