Remal review meeting: NDRF teams deployed, airlifting and evacuation operations carried out

Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier on Sunday reviewed the impact of Cyclone Remal which claimed three dozen lives and affected more than two lakh people across the northeastern states due to flash floods, heavy rains, and landslides.

In a press release by the Prime Minister’s Office, Narendra Modi was briefed about the impact of the cyclone on the affected states during the meeting.

“The loss of human lives and damage to houses and properties due to landslides and floods in Mizoram, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura was also discussed. NDRF teams have been deployed as per the needs. The teams have carried out evacuation, airlifting and road clearance operations,” the press release added.

During the meeting, it was mentioned that the Ministry of Home Affairs is in regular touch with the State Governments.

Prime Minister Modi reiterated the central government’s commitment to providing full support to the cyclone-affected states. He instructed the Ministry of Home Affairs to continuously monitor the situation and review the requirements for necessary restoration assistance.

Continuous rainfall and landslides have isolated parts of the northeast, submerging railway tracks under floodwaters. The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has cancelled express, passenger, and goods trains bound for south Assam, Tripura, Manipur, and Mizoram since Tuesday due to inundated railway tracks throughout the region.
