All-India Institute of Ayurveda successfully hosts ‘Saushrutam 2024’ with live surgical demonstrations

The All-India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) in New Delhi successfully concluded its Second National Seminar SAUSHRUTAM Shalya Sangoshti, marking the celebration of Sushruta Jayanti-2024. The three-day event, which began on July 13, honored Sushruta, widely regarded as the father of surgery.

The seminar featured an impressive lineup of dignitaries, including Prof. Sandeep Kumar, Founder Director of AIIMS Bhopal, as the Chief Guest, and Padamshri Prof. Manoranjan Sahu, Founder Director of AIIA Delhi, among others as Guests of Honor.

AIIA Director Prof. (Dr) Tanuja Nesari and Prof Dr Yogesh Badwe, HoD Shalyatantra, welcomed the attendees and provided an overview of the seminar.

A highlight of the event was the live demonstration of 25 complex surgical procedures, offering participants a unique opportunity to observe and learn from renowned surgeons.

These surgeries, performed using both modern techniques like VAAFT, laparoscopy, and laser, as well as traditional Shayla methods, addressed conditions such as fistula-in-ano, hemorrhoids, and gallbladder stones.

Prof. Tanuja Nesari emphasized AIIA’s commitment to elevating Ayurveda globally, said, “Since its inception, AIIA has been committed to elevating Ayurveda globally. Saushrutam, hosted by the Department of Shalya Tantra, exemplifies our dedication to integrating Ayurveda with cutting-edge surgical technology, empowering aspiring Ayurvedic surgeons with advanced skills and confidence in integrated surgical practices.”

The third day of the National Seminar started with the Sushruta Poojan ceremony, followed by a paper presentation competition. The event concluded with a valedictory ceremony where prizes were distributed for the paper presentation competition and a vote of thanks.

The event drew over 160 participants, including PG/Ph.D scholars, resident doctors, surgeons, and faculty members from across India.

It also featured experts from various prestigious institutions, including Prof. (Dr.) Laxman Singh from IMS, BHU, Varanasi, and Dr. Bijender Shah from Tribhuvan University, Nepal.
