Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal is on official visit to Switzerland for promoting the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA). On his first day of visit, he highlighted India’s growth story through a series of important meetings.
Minister Goyal started his day with a crucial meeting with Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO). They discussed ongoing trade negotiations and the progress since the 13th WTO Ministerial Conference, focusing on fair and meaningful trade outcomes.
Goyal also engaged with the Indian community in Zurich, acknowledging their contributions to the Swiss economy and Indo-Swiss relations. He encouraged them to invest in India, emphasizing the opportunities available under the new India-EFTA TEPA.
The Minister met with leading business figures and potential investors, including representatives from MSC Cargo. They discussed collaboration and investment opportunities in various sectors to support India’s growth and development.
A productive meeting was held with senior officials from Zurich Airport, including Chairman Josef Felder. They explored collaboration to enhance airport infrastructure and air services in India, focusing on best practices and innovations.
Goyal also met with India’s WTO team in Geneva, led by the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of India at WTO, along with senior officers from the Department of Commerce. They discussed priority issues in the WTO negotiations, reinforcing India’s strategic approach to international trade.
