Addressing the Indian community in Moscow, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his support for the Indian contingent heading to the upcoming Paris Olympics.
India’s representation at the Summer Games has grown significantly over the years. At the Tokyo Olympics, India sent its largest contingent ever, with 124 athletes who collectively won seven medals—the highest tally India has achieved in a single edition of the Summer Games.
As of Sunday, 82 athletes have qualified for the Paris Olympics, according to Olympics.com. With more than two weeks remaining before the Games, India is hopeful that more athletes will secure their spots for the event, which kicks off on July 26.
Prime Minister Modi voiced his confidence in the Indian team, saying that a “great team” is being sent to the Paris Olympics.
“India is sending a great team to the Paris Olympics. You will see how the entire team and athletes will demonstrate their strength. This self-confidence of the youth is the real capital of India, and this youth power holds the greatest potential to elevate India to new heights in the 21st century,” PM Modi said.
