Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, felicitated Paris Olympic bronze medalist Aman Sehrawat on Tuesday in the national capital. Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Ravi Dahiya also attended the event.
The 21-year-old athlete, who became the youngest Indian to win an Olympic medal, was warmly welcomed at Delhi Airport on Tuesday. A large crowd gathered at Terminal 3 to celebrate Sehrawat’s historic achievement.
Speaking to ANI, Aman said, “I will now train for the upcoming tournaments. I will work hard to win the gold medal at the LA Olympics 2028.”
Aman’s grandfather, Mange Ram, expressed his pride and optimism for the future, saying, “I am very happy. He made the entire nation proud and will surely win the gold medal at the LA Olympics 2028.”
His coach, Lalit Kumar, echoed this confidence, saying, “I am very happy as Aman has won an Olympic medal for the nation. We concentrated on increasing his attacking power, and in the Olympics, he won most of the bouts with a big lead. We have set a target of winning the gold medal at the LA Olympics 2028.”
Later that day, Delhi LG Vinay Saxena also felicitated Aman for his historic triumph at the Paris Olympics.
Reflecting on his achievement, Aman said: “I am very happy and still can’t believe that I have won a medal for the country at the Olympics. I was hoping for the gold but I am happy with bronze as well. It was a speechless moment when I stood on the podium. From today, my next target will be to prepare for the 2028 Olympics and the 2026 Asian Games.”
In his bronze medal match, Aman overcame an early setback when the Puerto Rican grappler gained the lead with a single-leg hold. However, Aman responded strongly, scoring points by targeting Darian Cruz’s shoulders. Despite Cruz taking the lead again with a two-point move, Aman regained control, and with 37 seconds left, he secured additional points. He ultimately won the bout with technical superiority as Cruz attempted a desperate move, conceding another point.
