Sajeeb Wazed, son of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has strongly refuted recent social media reports claiming his mother’s resignation. Wazed emphatically denied the authenticity of a statement attributed to Hasina, describing it as “completely false and fabricated.”
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Wazed said, “The recent resignation statement attributed to my mother published in a newspaper is completely false and fabricated. I have just confirmed with her that she did not make any statement either before or since leaving Dhaka.”
This denial comes in response to a report by Dhaka Tribune, which cited an Indian media outlet claiming that Sheikh Hasina had accused the United States of being responsible for her resignation.
In an earlier interview on Saturday, Wazed expressed gratitude to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his government’s swift action following recent developments in Bangladesh that led to Hasina’s departure. He dismissed rumors about visa revocation and political asylum applications as unfounded.
Wazed said, “No one has revoked her visa. She has not applied for political asylum anywhere. Those are all rumors.”
He further emphasized his personal gratitude to Prime Minister Modi, saying, “My message to the government of India is my personal gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for his government’s quick action in saving my mother’s life. I am eternally grateful.”
Wazed also called for India to take a more prominent leadership role in world affairs, particularly in its neighborhood, suggesting that India should not allow other foreign powers to dictate situations in the region.
“India needs to take a leadership role in the world, and not let other foreign powers dictate the situation. Because this is India’s neighbourhood. This is India’s eastern side,” he said.
