Bangladesh Dengue Cases

Bangladesh faces surge in dengue cases as six more die, over 24,000 infected this year

In Bangladesh, dengue cases are increasing day by day. On Sunday, six more people died of dengue in 24 hours while 926 more patients were hospitalised with viral fever.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the death toll from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh reached to 131 this year.

Across Bangladesh, around 2,800 dengue patients are receiving treatment in different hospitals.
A total of 24,034 dengue cases have been reported since January 1, 2024, according to DGHS.

Bangladesh encountered the deadliest outbreak of dengue last year in which 1,705 people lost their lives. Earlier, the spread of mosquito borne disease was largely limited to Dhaka and some other urban pockets but due to higher rainfall and heat, last year it spread countrywide.

According to World Health Organization (WHO), the increasing frequency of extreme weather events is fueling the spread of the disease into new locations and extending dengue seasons in countries where the disease is already present.
