IMD forecasts widespread rainfall across India

IMD | Southwest Monsoon | Low-pressure system | Cyclonic circulation

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted rainfall across several regions due to the development of a low-pressure system, which has delayed the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon.

According to the IMD, a cyclonic circulation that was previously over southern Chhattisgarh has now shifted to north-central Maharashtra. This shift, along with a trough extending from Maharashtra to northern Bangladesh, is expected to bring widespread rainfall to various regions.

In western India, the IMD anticipates fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall in Konkan and Goa throughout the week. Maharashtra and Gujarat are also expected to experience similar weather conditions over the next three days, with isolated rainfall continuing afterward. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted in isolated locations within Konkan, Goa, and Maharashtra today, with further isolated heavy rainfall expected in Gujarat and Saurashtra on September 28.

In the eastern and northeastern regions, fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall is forecasted over the next seven days. Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and Bihar today. States such as Jharkhand and several northeastern states can also expect heavy rainfall in the coming days.

For central India, scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall is predicted over the next three days, with isolated heavy rainfall likely in West Madhya Pradesh on September 27 and 28.

In northwestern India, widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected in Uttarakhand and eastern Uttar Pradesh over the next three days. Heavy rainfall is forecasted in these regions today and tomorrow, with similar conditions likely in Himachal Pradesh and western Uttar Pradesh.

The southern peninsula is expected to see scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall this week, with isolated heavy rainfall forecasted for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and parts of Karnataka over the weekend.
