Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced a significant development in the ongoing India-China relations during the ‘Chanakya Defence Dialogue,’ stating that a broad consensus has been reached to restore the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh, grounded in principles of equal and mutual security.

In his keynote address on Thursday, Singh emphasized that the agreement between India and China demonstrates that continuous dialogue can effectively resolve differences. “The broad consensus achieved by India and China to resolve their differences in certain areas along the LAC is proof that continuous dialogue brings solutions,” he said.

Singh highlighted the ongoing diplomatic and military discussions between the two nations aimed at addressing their differences. He said that this consensus includes crucial issues such as patrolling and grazing in traditional areas, reinforcing the importance of sustained dialogue in achieving solutions.

“India has a distinctive vision regarding development and security, making self-reliance in defence a prominent national goal,” Singh said. He further elaborated on the broader impacts of transforming India’s defence sector into a self-reliant entity, which includes boosting income, creating jobs, advancing manufacturing, fostering research and development, establishing supply chains, and enhancing overall resilience. “These impacts not only strengthen our national security but also stimulate India’s economy,” he added.

In related developments, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Chinese President Xi Jinping during the BRICS Summit and welcomed the recent agreement on patrolling arrangements along the LAC. PM Modi emphasized that maintaining peace and stability on the border should remain a priority for both nations, urging that mutual trust should serve as the foundation of bilateral ties.

The Prime Minister also reiterated that the India-China relationship is crucial not only for the citizens of both countries but also for global peace, stability, and progress.
