Delhi’s air quality remained “very poor” a day before Diwali, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) exceeding 300 in several parts of the capital, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
At Anand Vihar, the AQI reached 351, while Bawana and Ashok Vihar recorded AQIs of 319 and 351, respectively. Wazirpur registered 327, all of which fall into the ‘very poor’ category. Aya Nagar recorded an AQI of 290, classified as ‘poor,’ and the ITO area stood at 284, also in the ‘poor’ category.
Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva blamed the Aam Aadmi Party-led government in Punjab for failing to address stubble burning.
“Pollution is worsening in Delhi, now considered the world’s most polluted capital. When we learned that the Punjab Chief Minister was present today, we requested a meeting,” Sachdeva said, accusing the AAP leadership of defending the state’s inaction.
Sachdeva alleged that on October 26, Punjab reported 108 incidents of stubble burning, compared to just 16 in Haryana and 11 in Uttar Pradesh. “If they aren’t controlling stubble burning in Punjab, it’s political. Many are suffering from health issues related to this pollution,” he added.
