Over 63,000 people traveled through Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) during the last two days of the Dashain festival. Dashain, Nepal’s biggest festival, is marked by family gatherings. On Sunday, people celebrated Tika, where elders bless younger members with jamara and tika, and relatives visit each other to exchange good wishes.
Travel data includes both domestic and international flights. A total of 31,765 domestic passengers flew from Kathmandu to their hometowns, while over 31,000 international passengers departed for their destinations.
The surge in flight demand was attributed to severe flooding and landslides caused by continuous rainfall on September 27-28, which damaged highways and roads, forcing many to opt for air travel.
Increased passenger flow between September 29 and October 2 led to overcrowding at the TIA terminal, as travelers sought alternative transportation in the wake of the disaster.
