In a celebration of India’s cultural diversity, the Embassy of India’s inaugural ‘Pravasi Parichay’ festival has successfully united the Indian diaspora in Saudi Arabia. Launched in partnership with local Indian associations and the Ministry of External Affairs’ Diaspora Engagement Division, the cultural carnival drew over 450 performers from 14 Indian states.

The festival transformed into a grand spectacle of India’s cultural mosaic, with each participating state establishing dedicated pavilions showcasing their distinctive art, cuisine, and traditions. From the rhythmic beats of Punjab’s Bhangra to the classical grace of Kerala’s Mohiniattyam, the event featured varied performances.

Presentations included Rajasthan’s Kalbelia dance, Tamil Nadu’s traditional Parai and Bharatnatyam performances, and Andhra Pradesh’s dramatic Mahishasur Mardini dance drama. Telangana brought the vibrant Marfa and Lambada tribal dances, while Delhi presented a moving theatrical tribute to Indian soldiers.

The festival also highlighted classical art forms such as Odissi from Odisha and Yakshagana from Karnataka, alongside folk traditions like Gujarat’s Garba and Maharashtra’s Lavni dance. Musical performances ranged from Uttar Pradesh’s soulful Qawwali to contemporary rap from Telangana, demonstrating the evolution of Indian artistic expression.

State pavilions offered visitors an immersive experience into regional cultures, serving as cultural bridges for the Indian community in Saudi Arabia. The event successfully achieved its aim of fostering unity while celebrating India’s diverse cultural heritage among the diaspora.
