The 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), scheduled from November 20 to 28 in Goa, is set to highlight the best of global cinema.
Themed “Young Filmmakers – The Future is Now,” IFFI 2024 will focus on emerging talent while celebrating India’s rich cinematic heritage.
Festival Director Shekhar Kapur, renowned for works like ‘Bandit Queen’ and ‘Mr. India’, unveiled this year’s highlights at a curtain-raiser event in New Delhi. This year, IFFI, part of the prestigious FIAPF-accredited international competition group, will feature over 180 films from 81 countries, offering a dynamic blend of global and local storytelling.
Sanjay Jaju, Secretary of Information and Broadcasting, emphasized the unique industry-led approach for IFFI 2024, describing it as a “new path” for the event. To nurture fresh talent, the “Creative Minds of Tomorrow” initiative will now support 100 young filmmakers, while a new “Best Indian Debut Director” award will honor promising Indian talent.
The festival will also pay tribute to four icons of Indian cinema—Raj Kapoor, Mohammed Rafi, Tapan Sinha, and Akkineni Nageswara Rao, with special screenings of restored classics like Awara and Hum Dono. Australia has been named the “Country of Focus,” and the United Kingdom will showcase British cinema as the “Treaty Country,” adding to the festival’s international appeal.
To engage younger audiences, “IFFiesta,” an entertainment zone powered by District and Zomato, will offer live performances, food stalls, and cultural activities along the Riverfront near Kala Academy. IFFI 2024 also prioritizes accessibility, featuring wheelchair access, audio descriptions, and sign language interpretation in collaboration with Svayam.
With over 270 screenings taking place across Goa, the festival will also introduce immersive inflatable theaters at various locations. In addition, more than 25 masterclasses led by industry icons such as A.R. Rahman and Shabana Azmi will provide valuable insights for aspiring filmmakers, making IFFI 2024 an unmissable event for film enthusiasts. The 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), scheduled from November 20 to 28 in Goa, is set to showcase the best of cinema on an epic scale.
