Cold winds, foggy conditions to continue in Delhi-NCR

The national capital experienced shallow fog on Tuesday, with temperatures dropping and visibility reduced in several areas. According to the IMD, the average temperature in Delhi was 10.2°C, with Pusa recording the lowest at 9.1°C and Najafgarh having a minimum of 9.6°C.

The IMD forecasted a minimum temperature ranging from 9 to 11°C, with a maximum temperature expected between 15 and 18°C. The weather department also warned that shallow fog could persist throughout the day, potentially impacting road visibility.

At 8 am, the air quality index (AQI) in Delhi was 245, categorized as “poor,” according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). AQI levels between 201 and 300 are classified as “poor,” while values between 301 and 400 are considered “very poor.”

To provide relief to the homeless, the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) has established 235 pagoda tents across the city. Night shelters are available in locations such as AIIMS, Lodhi Road, and near the Nizamuddin flyover.

On Sunday, the IMD predicted a gradual drop in temperatures across parts of northwest and central India, including Delhi, over the coming days.

Dr. Naresh Kumar, an IMD scientist, confirmed that temperatures were expected to decrease by 3 to 5°C in many regions.

The IMD also forecasted dense to very dense fog in Punjab and Haryana, which could disrupt travel and reduce visibility.
