Well-planned anti-India campaigns, says BJP; questions Congress’ ‘links’ with Soros

The BJP on Monday intensified its attack on the Congress, particularly targeting Sonia Gandhi, over her alleged association with an organisation funded by the George Soros Foundation, which has reportedly backed anti-India narratives, including the independence of Kashmir.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters, party spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Sudhanshu Trivedi raised serious concerns about what he called “well-planned anti-India campaigns” surfacing during key political events. He cited instances like the Pegasus report during the 2021 Monsoon Session, the Hindenburg report ahead of the 2023 Budget Session, and a recent report targeting Indian businesses just before the ongoing Winter Session.

Trivedi said that following the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) report, attention has shifted to the Forum for Democratic Leaders in Asia-Pacific (FDL-AP), a non-profit founded in 1994 to promote democracy in the region.

He pointed out that Sonia Gandhi, as chairperson of the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, also serves as co-chairperson of the FDL-AP. Trivedi alleged that the forum’s publications portray India negatively, suggesting a decline in its democratic system while presenting a more favorable view of Pakistan.

BJP urged her to address these allegations in Parliament and answer three questions: Congress’ ties to the FDL-AP, endorsement of its anti-India narratives, and acknowledgment of Soros’s funding.

Trivedi called the alleged association “treasonous” and accused the opposition of evading discussions on national security. The allegations come amid rising political tensions during the Winter Session of Parliament.
