American fourth seed Taylor Fritz needed just 82 minutes to beat Chilean qualifier Cristian Garin 6-2 6-1 6-0 on the back of a strong first serve.

0442 DE MINAUR SAILS INTO THIRD ROUND

Australian eighth seed Alex de Minaur brushed aside American qualifier Tristan Boyer with a 6-2 6-4 6-3 victory at Rod Laver Arena.

0440 MUSETTI SEES OFF SHAPOVALOV IN STRAIGHT SETS

Lorenzo Musetti reached the third round in Melbourne for the first time in his career after the Italian 16th seed beat Denis Shapovalov 7-6(3) 7-6(6) 6-2.

Frenchman Gael Monfils, who became the oldest player to win an ATP Tour title when the 38-year-old won the Auckland Classic on Saturday, beat German Daniel Altmaier 7-5 6-3 7-6(3) to move into the third round.

American eighth seed Emma Navarro, the 2024 U.S. Open semi-finalist, battled to a 6-3 3-6 6-4 win over unseeded Chinese Wang Xiyu on Margaret Court Arena.

Polish 18th seed Hubert Hurkacz was sent packing by unseeded Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic, who beat the 2024 quarter-finalist 6-4 6-4 6-2.

0208 RADUCANU KNOCKS OUT ANISIMOVA, TO FACE SWIATEK

Emma Raducanu, the 2021 U.S. Open champion, overcame a hip issue to eliminate American Amanda Anisimova in a 6-3 7-5 victory.

It is the first time the 22-year-old Raducanu has progressed to the third round at Melbourne Park. She will next face world number two Iga Swiatek.

“I’m loving it. It’s another opportunity to test my game … I think obviously she’s (Swiatek) achieved so much already and I think going into it, I have nothing to lose. I’m just going to swing. I’m going to give it my best and I can’t wait to play in front of you guys,” Raducanu said.

0147 SWIATEK, JABEUR THROUGH IN STRAIGHT SETS

Polish second seed Iga Swiatek, chasing a sixth Grand Slam crown and a first at Melbourne Park, wasted little time in beating Slovak Rebecca Sramkova 6-0 6-2.

Tunisian Ons Jabeur also advanced after defeating Colombian Camila Osorio 7-5 6-3.

0135 KASATKINA STORMS PAST WANG

Russian ninth seed Daria Kasatkina made light work of unseeded Chinese Wang Yafan, winning 6-2 6-0 to move into the third round.

0022 PLAY BEGINS AT MELBOURNE PARK

Play began on schedule on the fifth day of the Australian Open at Melbourne Park with the temperature hovering around 17 degrees Celsius (62.6 degrees Fahrenheit).

Second seed Iga Swiatek will be in action on Rod Laver Arena later, while defending men’s champion Jannik Sinner will take to the court in the evening session.

Italians Jasmine Paolini and Matteo Berrettini are among those playing on the showcourts. Other top seeds on the schedule include Taylor Fritz and Daniil Medvedev.
