Defence Minister Rajnath Singh conferred 32 gallantry, distinguished service, and meritorious service medals to Indian Coast Guard (ICG) personnel during the 18th ICG Investiture Ceremony at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on Tuesday. The awards were presented for exceptional acts of valour, dedication, and service in challenging conditions.
The medals included six President’s Tatrakshak Medals (Distinguished Service), 11 Tatrakshak Medals (Gallantry), and 15 Tatrakshak Medals (Meritorious Service) for 2022, 2023, and 2024. Defence Minister hailed the recipients, describing the awards as symbols of bravery and perseverance in maintaining the nation’s coastal security and sovereignty.
Singh also commended the ICG’s efforts in curbing piracy, terrorism, and illegal activities, as well as their role in humanitarian operations. He highlighted the service’s significant accomplishments over the past year, including the apprehension of 14 boats, 115 pirates, and the seizure of drugs worth ₹37,000 crore. Additionally, ICG saved 169 lives and provided medical assistance to 29 individuals during rescue missions.
Addressing modern threats, Singh urged the ICG to remain vigilant against emerging challenges such as cyber-attacks and GPS spoofing. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the ICG, citing the recent budget increase and approval of new patrol vessels, boats, and vehicles.
