COAS Gen Upendra Dwivedi stresses Jointness and Integration in Armed Forces amid evolving warfare

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Upendra Dwivedi emphasized the critical need for jointness and integration among India’s Armed Forces in response to the evolving nature of warfare. Addressing officers undergoing the 80th Staff Course at the Defence Services Staff College (DSSC) in Wellington on Wednesday, Gen Dwivedi outlined the strategic challenges facing India and the necessity for synergy between the Army, Navy, and Air Force to tackle future security threats.

According to the Ministry of Defence, the COAS praised DSSC for its role in shaping future military leaders, underlining the importance of professional military education in enhancing operational readiness and decision-making capabilities. He highlighted the need for adaptability, leadership, and technological integration to stay ahead in modern warfare.

During his visit, Gen Dwivedi interacted with the DSSC faculty, discussing military strategy, operational art, and leadership development. He recognized the institution’s contribution to promoting inter-service cooperation and strengthening India’s overall defence preparedness.

COAS was briefed by DSSC Commandant Lt Gen Virendra Vats on the updates to the Staff Course curriculum, particularly its focus on preparing officers for the challenges of future warfare. Special mention was made of the first Deep Purple Division, where 40 tri-services officers underwent joint training.

In addition, Gen Dwivedi met with veterans of the Wellington Military Station and honored them with the ‘Veteran Achievers Award,’ acknowledging their invaluable contributions to the nation.
