Yoga Meets Nature: NEIAH hosts event at Meghalaya’s living root bridge ahead of International Yoga Day 2025

In a unique blend of tradition, nature, and wellness, yoga practitioners gathered at Meghalaya’s famous ‘Double Decker Living Root Bridge’ in Nongriat for a special yoga session. Organized by the North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda and Homoeopathy (NEIAH), the event marked the countdown to International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2025, according to a statement from the Ministry of AYUSH on Monday.

Set against the stunning natural backdrop of misty hills and waterfalls, participants practiced yoga at this UNESCO World Heritage contender, which is made entirely from the aerial roots of rubber fig trees. The Living Root Bridge, a symbol of resilience and harmony with nature, perfectly embodied the spirit of yoga, which also promotes patience, strength, and balance.

Since the United Nations declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga in 2014, India has hosted yoga sessions at iconic landmarks such as the Taj Mahal and Konark Sun Temple. Now, the Living Root Bridge has joined this list, showcasing how yoga aligns with both modern wellness and ancient wisdom.
