Indian Army responds effectively to ceasefire violations by Pakistan army

For the fourth consecutive day, the Pakistan Army engaged in unprovoked firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian Army said on Monday.

“During the night of April 27-28, 2025, Pakistan Army posts initiated unprovoked small arms fire across the LoC in areas opposite Kupwara and Poonch districts. Indian troops responded swiftly and effectively,” a defence spokesperson said.

Monday’s incident marks the fourth successive ceasefire violation by Pakistan. On the night of April 25-26, multiple Pakistan Army posts across the LoC in Kashmir carried out unprovoked small arms fire. Indian troops responded appropriately with similar force.

No casualties have been reported so far.

The Pakistan Army had also resorted to small arms firing at several locations along the LoC on April 24, which was met with an effective retaliatory response from Indian forces.

Tensions between the two countries have escalated following the brutal killing of 26 innocent civilians—including 25 tourists and a local resident—by Pakistan-backed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists on April 22 in the Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam.

The massacre has drawn widespread outrage across the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his first public reaction to the Pahalgam killings, vowed that the terrorists, along with their handlers and backers, would be hunted down to the ends of the earth.

In a high-level security review meeting held in Srinagar on Sunday, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha met with Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi. The Lt Governor directed the Army to use all necessary force to bring the perpetrators of the Pahalgam terror attack to justice.

Meanwhile, in a strong message to terrorists, their overground workers (OGWs), and sympathisers, security forces continue to demolish properties linked to terrorism.

On Friday, two houses belonging to terrorists Adil Hussain Thokar and Asif Sheikh were demolished in the Tral and Bijbehara areas. Both were affiliated with the LeT group responsible for the Pahalgam killings.
