Mission Karmayogi, the government’s programme for capacity building in civil services, has achieved a significant milestone with over one crore civil servants now registered on the iGOT Karmayogi portal. The announcement was made on Wednesday by Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology.
The achievement signifies a 30-fold growth in user registrations since January 2023, when the platform had just 3 lakh users. This rapid adoption highlights India’s accelerating digital transformation in governance and reflects the Centre’s commitment to nurturing a future-ready and citizen-centric bureaucracy under Mission Karmayogi, the National Programme for Civil Services Capacity Building.
The platform, managed by Karmayogi Bharat, now includes over 2,400 courses in 16 Indian languages, developed in collaboration with more than 200 content providers. These include central and state government departments, Civil Services Training Institutes (CSTIs), philanthropic organizations, academic institutions, and private sector experts. Courses are designed in alignment with the Karmayogi Competency Model (KCM), which is rooted in Indian ethos and the guiding principles of Mission Karmayogi.
More than 60% of iGOT Karmayogi’s users are state and UT government employees, with the remaining users from central government ministries and departments. Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh are the leading states in terms of user registrations. To date, over 3.1 crore learning certificates have been issued, reflecting a cumulative learning time of more than 3.8 crore hours.
National and state-level learning initiatives have also played a significant role in boosting the platform’s engagement. The first Karmayogi Saptah (National Learning Week), held from October 19 to 27, 2024, saw more than 32 lakh course completions and over 38 lakh hours of learning. The event, launched by the Prime Minister, aimed at preparing India’s civil servants for the country’s vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.
Inspired by this national initiative, several states and union territories, including Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands, have launched their own State Learning Weeks to promote ongoing capacity building at the grassroots level.
Looking ahead, iGOT Karmayogi plans to expand its course offerings in regional languages, improve content quality, collaborate with new knowledge partners, and enhance user experience through artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. As a Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), the platform is designed to be scalable, secure, and inclusive—facilitating continuous learning across the public sector.
Notably, the platform has attracted international attention, with countries in the Caribbean and other regions expressing interest in adopting the iGOT Karmayogi framework, underlining India’s growing global influence in the field of digital governance innovation.
