Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced the successful conclusion of a landmark Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and the United Kingdom, along with the Double Contribution Convention.
Describing it as a “historic milestone,” PM Modi said that the deal is ambitious, mutually beneficial, and a major step in strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations.
“Delighted to speak with my friend PM @Keir_Starmer. In a historic milestone, India and the UK have successfully concluded an ambitious and mutually beneficial Free Trade Agreement, along with a Double Taxation Avoidance Convention”, PM Modi said in a post on X.
He emphasized that the agreements would boost trade, investment, innovation, and job creation in both countries, and looked forward to welcoming Prime Minister Starmer to India soon.
Both leaders reaffirmed that expanding economic and commercial ties remains a core aspect of their dynamic partnership. The comprehensive FTA, which covers trade in goods and services, is expected to boost bilateral trade, generate jobs, raise living standards, and open new avenues for global collaboration.
