External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday met the Speaker of Japan’s House of Representatives, Fukushiro Nukaga, and expressed gratitude for Tokyo’s expression of solidarity following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
Jaishankar, who hosted Nukaga and his parliamentary and business delegation in Delhi, also lauded the Japanese leader’s efforts in fostering the “natural relationship” between the two countries.
“Delighted to meet Speaker Fukushiro Nukaga of the House of Representatives of Japan today in Delhi, along with his parliamentary colleagues and business delegation. Thank him for the expression of solidarity and support on the Pahalgam terrorist attack,” the foreign minister said in a post on X.
He further noted that both sides agreed to enhance cooperation in talent exchange, business linkages, and technology partnerships.
Later in the day, Jaishankar held discussions with Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braze, during which they also touched upon the Pahalgam attack and its cross-border implications. “Discussed the Pahalgam terrorist attack and its cross-border linkages. Also spoke about global issues and our bilateral cooperation,” he said in a post.
Meanwhile, in Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma received Speaker Nukaga and his delegation at the Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test Facility site in Jagiroad on Sunday. The visit, part of the delegation’s three-day trip to the state, included a tour of the under-construction semiconductor plant.
Welcoming the delegation, Sarma said the visit was a significant development for Assam in terms of attracting Japanese investment. He also noted Japan’s existing support in areas such as healthcare and infrastructure.
The Assam Chief Minister’s Office stated that Japan has lifted all restrictions on tourists visiting Assam, further deepening ties between the northeastern state and Japan.
