Maharashtra CM Fadnavis to chair high-level security review meeting amid rising border tensions

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will chair a high-level security review meeting today at his official residence, Varsha Bungalow, in Mumbai. The meeting will be attended by senior police and administrative officials to assess the current security landscape and enhance preparedness in light of recent developments along the India-Pakistan border.

This move follows a similar high-level security meeting chaired by Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Friday. The Rajasthan CM directed officials to remain on high alert and issued strict orders to strengthen security infrastructure, especially in sensitive border districts.

The urgency of these meetings comes after Indian air defence systems intercepted Pakistani drones over Jaisalmer. Subsequent reports indicated explosions and flashes in the sky, triggering blackouts in Bikaner and parts of Punjab, as well as in Jammu, Samba, Akhnoor, Kishtwar, Amritsar, and Jalandhar.

“In view of the tense situation on the border, the Chief Minister has instructed for stringent security arrangements statewide, with special attention to border districts. He has also ordered the cancellation of all government employees’ leaves, directing them to report to their respective headquarters,” read a statement from the Rajasthan Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).

Meanwhile, former Rajasthan Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot expressed solidarity with the armed forces and appealed for public calm. “I request all residents of the state to remain calm, vigilant, and adhere to government advisories. Our army is capable of giving a befitting reply to any threat. In this decisive battle against terrorism, both the ruling party and the opposition stand united. The nation supports the armed forces and the government. India has already divided Pakistan once, and with our unity and the army’s courage, we will prevail again,” Gehlot said.

India had earlier responded to the Pahalgam terror attack through ‘Operation Sindoor,’ targeting terror infrastructure across the border through precision strikes. The Indian government has reiterated that any attack on its military installations will be met with an appropriate and resolute response.
