Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, representing India at Russia’s 80th Victory Day celebrations in Moscow, met Russian President Vladimir Putin during his visit and conveyed India’s gratitude for Russia’s steadfast support in the global fight against terrorism.
Sharing moments from the event on social media, Seth posted photos of his interaction with President Putin and participation in the commemorative ceremony marking the end of World War II.
“Honoured to meet President Vladimir Putin during my visit to Russia. Represented India at the banquet organised on the occasion of the 80th Victory Day anniversary. Expressed gratitude for Russia’s support in India’s fight against terrorism led by Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji,” he wrote on X.
Seth, a BJP MP from Ranchi, arrived in Moscow on Thursday and was received by Indian Ambassador to Russia Vinay Kumar and Major General Oleg Moiseyev of the Russian Defence Ministry.
During his visit, Seth held a bilateral meeting with Russian Deputy Defence Minister Colonel General Alexander Fomin. Discussions focused on enhancing military and military-technical cooperation.
“We had a productive discussion on further strengthening defence ties through existing institutional frameworks. India and Russia agreed to maintain regular consultations and expand cooperation in light of the evolving global security landscape,” Seth said.
Earlier, he also laid a wreath at a memorial in Moscow, paying tribute to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives during World War II.
Initially, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was scheduled to lead the Indian delegation. However, his visit was reportedly cancelled due to rising tensions between India and Pakistan following the launch of ‘Operation Sindoor’.
