The Indian Army has successfully repelled a major offensive launched by the Pakistan Armed Forces, including multiple drone and missile attacks across the western border during the night of May 8–9, according to an official statement issued Friday.
The offensive included several ceasefire violations (CFVs) along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, the Army said.
The Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS) confirmed that Indian forces thwarted a coordinated large-scale attack targeting military installations in northern and western India.
“Military stations in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur, located near the International Boundary in Jammu & Kashmir, were targeted by Pakistan using missiles and drones,” HQ IDS said in a post on X. “The threats were swiftly neutralised using kinetic and non-kinetic capabilities in line with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).”
The Army confirmed that there were no casualties or material losses.
The attacks, accompanied by intense shelling along the LoC and the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan, came hours after India conducted precision strikes earlier on May 8, targeting Pakistani air defence systems, including a site in Lahore.
The Ministry of Defence reiterated that any attack on Indian military assets would receive a “suitable response.”
During a press briefing on Thursday, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh addressed the recent escalation of hostilities.
Misri emphasized that the recent escalation was triggered by Pakistan following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, in which 26 people were killed.
Colonel Qureshi revealed that on the night of May 7–8, Pakistan attempted strikes on Indian military targets across a wide swath of territory, including Awantipora, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bathinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj.
She confirmed that India’s Integrated Counter-UAS Grid and air defence systems successfully intercepted and neutralized these aerial threats.
Reiterating India’s prior warning issued on May 7, Colonel Qureshi stressed that any attack on Indian military infrastructure would provoke a decisive and proportional response.
“This morning, the Indian Armed Forces targeted air defence radars and systems at multiple locations in Pakistan,” she said. “Our response matched Pakistan’s aggression in both domain and intensity. It has been reliably learned that an air defence system in Lahore was neutralised.”
These developments follow India’s launch of Operation Sindoor, a targeted response to the Pahalgam attack. The operation struck nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). The Ministry of Defence emphasized that the strikes were “focused, measured, and non-escalatory,” noting that no Pakistani military facilities were targeted and that India had exercised restraint in its response.
