Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Friday led the celebrations of the 11th International Day of Yoga at the Parliament complex, where a large number of Members of Parliament, former MPs, and employees from both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha Secretariats participated in the Common Yoga Protocol session.
Addressing the gathering, Birla said that yoga is far more than a physical exercise—it is a profound way of life that enables harmony between the body, mind, and soul. “Yoga empowers individuals with strength, serenity, and spiritual energy,” he said, calling upon citizens to adopt yoga as a daily practice and to share their personal experiences of transformation. Such testimonies, he noted, can serve as an inspiration for others to discover the positive impact of yoga.
Birla urged the youth, in particular, to embrace yoga to develop inner resilience, build self-confidence, and find clarity of purpose in an increasingly demanding world. “Yoga enhances not just our health, but also our ability to live with purpose and peace,” he said.
Highlighting yoga’s growing global appeal, the Speaker noted that the International Day of Yoga is now marked by millions across continents. He said the scale of participation reflects the widespread recognition of yoga’s relevance in contemporary life, transcending cultural boundaries and national borders.
Birla also underlined the scientific validation of yoga, observing that research conducted across the world has acknowledged its positive effects on both physical and mental health. “Yoga helps manage stress, improves focus, and contributes to a more balanced lifestyle,” he said. He emphasised that in today’s modern, high-pressure environment, yoga offers a constructive and peaceful means of channelling energy and building inner strength.
Later in the day, the Lok Sabha Speaker led another yoga session organised by the Brahma Kumaris at the Red Fort premises. Commending the organisation for its role in promoting peace and well-being, Birla said that the Brahma Kumaris have made a lasting contribution to society through their teachings of Raj Yoga and Gyan Yoga.
Referring to his recent visit to Brazil, he said the global influence of the Brahma Kumaris is evident in the way they have strengthened international connections and created a positive impact on diverse communities. “It is a matter of pride that an organisation rooted in Indian spiritual traditions is inspiring people around the world and guiding them toward meaningful inner transformation,” he added.
