The Amarnath Yatra resumed from Jammu on Friday after being temporarily suspended due to inclement weather on Thursday. A fresh batch of 7,908 pilgrims set out for the Kashmir Valley in two escorted convoys.
According to officials, over 2.52 lakh pilgrims have undertaken the annual Amarnath Yatra since it commenced on July 3.
“Another batch of 7,908 yatris left the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in two escorted convoys for the Valley today. The first convoy, comprising 92 vehicles and carrying 2,879 pilgrims, departed at 3:30 a.m. for the Baltal base camp. The second convoy, with 169 vehicles and 5,029 pilgrims, left at 4:25 a.m. for the Nunwan (Pahalgam) base camp,” officials said.
To ensure the safety of pilgrims, authorities have implemented extensive multi-tier security arrangements. An additional 180 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) have been deployed to bolster the existing presence of the Army, Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), and local police forces.
This year’s Yatra, which began on July 3, is scheduled to conclude on August 9, coinciding with Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan.
