NEP 2020 | Dharmendra Pradhan | Indian education

Five years of NEP 2020: India charts next phase of reform with ₹4,000-crore push, global tie-ups

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Tuesday inaugurated the Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Samagam (ABSS) 2025 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, marking five years since the launch of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. As part of the celebrations, Pradhan launched educational initiatives and infrastructure projects worth over ₹4,000 crore, including new and upgraded campuses for Kendriya and Navodaya Vidyalayas, hostels for tribal students, and key facilities across IITs, NITs, and central universities.

The event brought together policymakers, educators, and industry leaders to take stock of the policy’s implementation and outline the road ahead.

In his address, Pradhan called NEP 2020 a “national mission” rooted in Indian ethos, with a vision to transform classrooms into creative, inclusive spaces. He underlined the policy’s emphasis on Indian languages, scientific temper, and innovation, saying it would guide the country towards Viksit Bharat @2047.

Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary and Dr. Sukanta Majumdar were also present, alongside ministers and officials from 13 states and union territories.

The Samagam also saw the launch of digital tools such as the TARA App for reading fluency, the My Career Advisor platform, and AI-based learning solutions like ViBe. A national rating system for green and hygienic schools and a new multilingual testing portal were also unveiled.

A major highlight was the announcement of Letters of Intent by foreign universities—including Western Sydney, Victoria, La Trobe, and Bristol—to open campuses in India, offering globally recognised programmes in emerging disciplines.

The event featured thematic sessions on AI in education, regional languages, research, and secondary schooling, alongside an exhibition showcasing best practices under NEP.

As India enters the second phase of NEP implementation, ABSS 2025 signaled a renewed push to make education more inclusive, tech-integrated, and globally aligned.
