Rajnath Singh | Lok Sabha Operation Sindoor

Rajnath Singh initiates discussion on Operation Sindoor in Lok Sabha

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday initiated the long-awaited discussion on Operation Sindoor on the floor of the Lok Sabha.

Describing the military operation launched by the Indian armed forces as “historic,” Singh paid tribute to the soldiers who are always prepared to lay down their lives for the nation.

“The Parliament is ready to discuss Operation Sindoor. First of all, I would like to extend my gratitude, on behalf of the House, to the brave jawans who have sacrificed for the country whenever required,” Singh said during his address in the Lower House.

He emphasised that Operation Sindoor was a “decisive and effective demonstration” of India’s stance against terrorism.

“On May 6 and 7, the Indian armed forces launched Operation Sindoor, which remains historic. It was not merely a military operation but a decisive and effective demonstration of our policy against terrorism. It also reflected our commitment to India’s sovereignty, its identity, and our responsibility towards the citizens of the country,” the Defence Minister stated.

Singh informed the Lok Sabha that the armed forces had conducted an “in-depth study” before executing the operation. He said the objective was to inflict maximum damage on terrorists while ensuring no harm came to civilians.

“Before carrying out Operation Sindoor, our armed forces conducted an in-depth study of every aspect. We had several options, but we chose the one that would inflict maximum damage on the terrorists and their hideouts while ensuring no harm to Pakistani civilians. Soon after the Pahalgam attack, our Armed Forces took swift action and targeted nine terrorist infrastructure sites with precision, in which over 100 terrorists, along with their trainers and handlers, were targeted,” he said.

He added that the strikes were meticulously coordinated and executed with accuracy.

“The well-coordinated strikes hit nine terrorist infrastructure targets with precision. In this operation, it is estimated that more than 100 terrorists, their trainers, handlers, and associates were killed. Most of them were linked to terrorist organisations such as Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen,” Singh added.

“The entire operation was concluded within 22 minutes,” he said.

Prior to the Defence Minister’s address, the Lok Sabha was adjourned three times till 2 PM amid uproar, with Opposition MPs entering the Well of the House.
