Around 200 passengers stranded on a Mumbai Monorail near Mysore Colony station between Chembur and Bhakti Park on Tuesday evening are being rescued, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.
According to officials, the monorail service was halted around 6:15 p.m. following a technical glitch linked to a power supply issue. Passengers contacted the BMC’s helpline number 1916 for assistance, after which the Mumbai Fire Brigade launched a rescue operation using three snorkel (ladder) vehicles.
Under the directives of Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Bhushan Gagrani, ambulances and a municipal medical team were rushed to the site. Nearby municipal hospitals were placed on alert, while four to five BEST buses were deployed for passenger transport.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, in a post on X, assured that the safety of passengers was the top priority. “Due to some technical reason, a monorail is stuck between Chembur and Bhakti Park. The MMRDA, the fire brigade, and the BMC have reached the spot. The highest priority is being given to the safety of all passengers. Therefore, no one should worry or panic. All passengers will be safely evacuated. An inquiry will also be conducted into why this incident occurred,” he said.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) also confirmed the disruption, stating that one train near Mysore Colony station experienced a minor power supply issue. “Our operations and maintenance teams are already on-site and working to resolve it quickly. Services between Wadala and Chembur are running smoothly on a single line. Normal services will be restored at the earliest,” it said.
