Aadhaar face authentication sees threefold surge, hits record 19.36 crore transactions in July

Aadhaar face authentication recorded a more than threefold increase, reaching an all-time high of 19.36 crore transactions in July 2025, up from 5.77 crore in the same month last year, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology on Friday.

The Aadhaar face authentication solution has shown consistent month-on-month growth. July’s transactions represent a 22 per cent increase over June, reflecting its growing adoption and utility for both service delivery and access.

July also marked the highest single-day face authentication count, with over 1.22 crore transactions on July 1. The previous record was 1.07 crore, set on March 1 this year.

Over 150 entities—including government ministries and departments, financial institutions, oil marketing companies, and telecom service providers—are currently using face authentication to ensure the smooth and secure delivery of services and benefits. This AI-based authentication modality works across both Android and iOS platforms.

Aadhaar face authentication has also been integrated into the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP), enabling eligible beneficiaries to access their social security benefits through a secure and contactless process. Since July, 13.66 lakh beneficiaries have used face authentication to verify their identity.

In addition, all 850 medical colleges and institutions under the National Medical Commission (NMC) have adopted face authentication for marking attendance. Major recruitment bodies such as the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) and Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) are also using it for candidate registration and verification.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) recorded a total of 221 crore Aadhaar authentication transactions in July, reflecting a 3.8 per cent increase compared to the same month last year.

These growing transaction volumes highlight Aadhaar’s role as a facilitator for effective welfare delivery and as a voluntary tool for accessing a wide range of services. It continues to be a catalyst for ease of living for millions across the country.

In the same month, 39.56 crore e-KYC transactions were conducted. The Aadhaar e-KYC service continues to enhance customer experience and supports ease of doing business in sectors such as banking and non-banking financial services, the statement added.
