The National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB) under the Ministry of Ayush on Monday signed two strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at conserving rare medicinal plants and enhancing public awareness about their benefits.
The MoUs were signed in the presence of Union Minister of State for Ayush (Independent Charge) and Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Prataprao Jadhav, at a ceremony held at Nirman Bhawan in the national capital.
The first MoU was signed between NMPB and Pune-based IshVed-Bioplants Venture for the conservation of germplasm of rare, endangered, and threatened (RET) medicinal plants through tissue culture techniques. The initiative is expected to strengthen cultivation protocols and ensure a steady supply of RET category plants used in the Ayush sector.
The second, a tripartite MoU, was inked among NMPB, the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, for the establishment of a National Medicinal Plants Garden on the AIIMS campus. The garden will serve as an educational and awareness platform for patients, students, and visitors, showcasing the value of medicinal plants in healthcare.
Addressing the gathering, Union Minister Jadhav said, “The vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to create a healthy and self-reliant India by 2047 is guiding these transformative steps. These MoUs mark a significant milestone in our efforts to protect India’s rich heritage of medicinal flora and promote its integration with modern healthcare systems.”
