Delhi CM attack case: Accused Rajesh Khimji remanded to police custody for five days

A Delhi court on Thursday sent Rajesh Khimji, accused of attacking Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, to five days’ police custody. He was produced before the duty magistrate at his residence after a medical check-up at Aruna Asaf Ali Hospital and subsequent referral to LNJP Hospital.

Khimji, a native of Rajkot, Gujarat, was arrested after he allegedly attacked Gupta during a public hearing at her Civil Lines residence. A case has been registered at Civil Lines Police Station.

Earlier, the Delhi CM said she was “shocked” by the incident but is now feeling better. Calling the assault a “cowardly attempt” to derail her work, she urged supporters not to visit her.

In a post on X, Gupta said in Hindi: “The attack on me was not just on me, but on our resolve to serve Delhi. I was in shock initially but now I am feeling better.” She also thanked people for their good wishes and blessings.
