The Department of Higher Education has selected 21 teachers from higher education institutions and polytechnics for the National Awards to Teachers (NAT) 2025, the education ministry said on Tuesday.
The awards, earlier limited to school teachers, were extended in 2023 to cover faculty in higher education institutions under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The 21 awardees include teachers from state universities, central institutions and polytechnics. They were chosen on parameters such as teaching effectiveness, outreach, research and innovation, with the greatest weight given to teaching and outreach.
The evaluation process involved two stages: initial screening and shortlisting by a preliminary committee, followed by final selection by a national jury.
Nominations were invited online through the government’s awards portal, with options for self, institutional, and peer nomination as part of Jan Bhagidari.
