Northwest India is likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall until August 26, with conditions expected to ease thereafter, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday. Gujarat will continue to see heavy rainfall until August 30, while Rajasthan will receive heavy showers until August 27.
The IMD has also cautioned of isolated very heavy rainfall in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and western Rajasthan on Monday and Tuesday. Eastern Rajasthan and Gujarat are expected to see intense spells of rainfall until August 27, while Uttarakhand is likely to be affected on August 29 and 30. Odisha may witness heavy showers on August 26–27, and coastal Andhra Pradesh on August 26.
In the past 24 hours, extremely heavy rainfall (over 21 cm) was recorded at isolated locations in Punjab and Haryana. Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan reported very heavy rainfall (12–20 cm), while heavy rainfall (between 7–11 cm) was observed at scattered places in Jammu & Kashmir, eastern Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat region, Nicobar Islands, Odisha, Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh, and Assam.
In Delhi-NCR, cloudy skies and light to moderate rain are expected over the next four days.
On Monday, the city will witness cloudy conditions with light to moderate rainfall at some locations during the afternoon and evening, with maximum temperatures ranging from 30°C to 32°C — 2 to 4 degrees below normal. Similar conditions will prevail on August 26, with light thundershowers expected and maximum temperatures between 31°C and 33°C. Minimum temperatures are likely to remain 2–4 degrees below normal.
On August 27, light rainfall or thundershowers are expected, with maximum temperatures near normal at 32–34°C and minimums between 22°C and 24°C. By August 28, conditions will remain cloudy with light showers possible, and temperatures likely to rise slightly, ranging from 33°C to 35°C during the day.
Throughout this period, surface winds will predominantly blow from the southeast at speeds between 12–20 kmph, easing in the evening and night hours.
