IMD forecasts extremely heavy rain in Gujarat; heavy showers over multiple regions till Aug 30

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall over Konkan and Goa, central Maharashtra, Marathwada, Gujarat, Kerala and coastal Karnataka till August 30, with extremely heavy falls expected over the Gujarat region today. Isolated heavy rainfall is also likely to continue over northwest India during the next five days, with very heavy showers predicted over Himachal Pradesh between August 29 and 31 and over Uttarakhand from August 29 to September 2.

According to data recorded during the past 24 hours till 8:30 a.m. on Friday, extremely heavy rainfall (over 21 cm) was reported at isolated places in coastal Karnataka and Telangana, while Marathwada also saw extremely heavy downpour. Very heavy rainfall (ranging between 12 and 20 cm) occurred in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, eastern Rajasthan, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, eastern Uttar Pradesh, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and western Madhya Pradesh. Heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) was recorded in Punjab, Haryana, Konkan, Goa, central Maharashtra, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, south interior Karnataka, Lakshadweep and Vidarbha.

The IMD has cautioned of extremely heavy rain at isolated places over Gujarat on Friday, while very heavy rainfall is likely over Konkan, Goa, the ghat areas of central Maharashtra, Marathwada, Kerala, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagaland–Mizoram. Himachal Pradesh is expected to receive heavy rain during August 29–31, Uttarakhand between August 29 and September 2, Punjab on August 30, western Uttar Pradesh on August 29 and September 1, and coastal Karnataka on August 29 and 30.

Meanwhile, Delhi-NCR is expected to remain under generally cloudy skies between August 29 and September 1. Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely across most parts of the city during this period, with temperatures staying below normal by 2–5°C.

On Friday, the maximum temperature in Delhi is likely to hover between 30°C and 32°C, with winds from the southeast at speeds of up to 20 kmph in the afternoon before easing in the evening. Similar conditions will prevail over the next three days, with minimum temperatures ranging between 22°C and 24°C.
