The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across several regions of the country in the coming days, with some areas expected to experience extremely heavy showers.
According to IMD, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh are likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next three days, with isolated extremely heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh on August 4.
Southern states, including Kerala and Tamil Nadu, are also expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next five days. The ghat areas of Tamil Nadu and Kerala could experience extremely heavy rainfall on August 5 and 6. Meanwhile, the northeastern states and adjoining eastern Indian states are likely to see continuous heavy rainfall for the next seven days.
In the past 24 hours, extremely heavy rainfall (measuring 21 cm or more) was recorded at isolated places in Bihar and Meghalaya. Several other regions, including Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, eastern Madhya Pradesh, and Kerala, reported heavy to very heavy rainfall (between 7 and 20 cm). Heavy showers were also recorded in parts of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, and the northeastern states.
For Delhi-NCR, the forecast indicates generally cloudy skies with chances of rain and thunderstorms over the next few days.
On Monday, the national capital is expected to see partly cloudy conditions with the possibility of thundery development in the evening. The maximum temperature will range between 32°C and 34°C, slightly below normal, with winds blowing from the southwest at 10-15 kmph.
On August 5, Delhi is likely to experience light to moderate rain in one or two spells, primarily in the afternoon and evening. The maximum temperature will be between 31°C and 33°C, while the minimum will hover around 24°C to 26°C. Wind speed is expected to vary from 10 to 18 kmph from the southeast during the day.
August 6 will bring partly cloudy skies with a chance of light showers, with temperatures remaining in the range of 32°C to 34°C during the day and 24°C to 26°C at night. Winds will blow from the northeast at speeds of 8-12 kmph during the afternoon.
On August 7, similar conditions will prevail, with a slight possibility of very light rain. Maximum temperatures are expected to reach 33°C to 35°C, and minimum temperatures will be around 23°C to 25°C.
