Rainfall | IMD weather forecast

IMD warns of intense rainfall in Maharashtra, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh

The India Meteorological Department (IMD)A on Saturday forecast widespread heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in several parts of the country between August 16 and August 22, along with strong winds and thunderstorms.

According to the weather department, Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat and Saurashtra will see very heavy rain on August 16 and again between August 18–20. Telangana is likely to receive extremely heavy showers on August 16–17, while Coastal Karnataka will see similar conditions on August 18–19.

In central and eastern regions, south Vidarbha is forecast for extremely heavy rain on August 16, and Madhya Pradesh on August 18. Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Bihar will see heavy rainfall between August 18–22, the IMD said. 

In the north, Uttarakhand is set for very heavy rain on August 16–17, while East Rajasthan is likely to be hit on August 19, 21 and 22. Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh are also expected to receive heavy rain on select days, the IMD added. 

The northeast, including Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh, is likely to see heavy rainfall from August 16–22. Winds of 40–50 kmph are expected in several regions through August 20, according to the weather department.
