Indian Air Force ramps up flood relief operations in Punjab and Jammu

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has intensified its flood relief and rescue operations across Northern Punjab and Jammu since August 27,  focusing on the severely affected regions where rising water levels have disrupted surface connectivity. The IAF has deployed Mi-17 and Chinook helicopters, which have conducted over 55 sorties to evacuate stranded civilians, including personnel from the Indian Army and Border Security Force, from inundated areas in Dera Baba Nanak, Pathankot, and Akhnoor sectors.

In addition, C-130 transport aircraft have been mobilized to facilitate the swift deployment of specialized National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams to the affected zones. Over the past three days, these operations have resulted in the rescue of 215 individuals and the delivery of 7,300 kilograms of essential relief materials to flood-hit areas. Northern Punjab remains the primary focus due to the critical situation caused by persistent high water levels, with air assets strategically deployed to maximize coverage and support.

The IAF is working in close coordination with the Indian Army, Border Security Force, NDRF, and local administration to ensure timely evacuation and efficient distribution of supplies.
