Work is underway to clear the road blocked by a landslide in Nandprayag, Chamoli district, following heavy rainfall just days after a cloudburst in Uttarkashi left behind a trail of destruction.
Speaking to ANI, District Magistrate of Chamoli district, Sandeep Tiwari said that work is going on to open the road blocked due to the landslide in Nandprayag due to rain. He added that apart from this, all the roads in the district are smooth.
Meanwhile, the bridge connecting Uttarkashi to Harsil has been reconstructed to enable the smooth movement of machinery and relief materials in the Dharali and Harsil villages.
On August 5, a massive mudslide hit Dharali village in the Kheer Gad area near Harsil, sending debris and water surging through the settlements. The cloudburst triggered flash floods in the high-altitude villages, sweeping away several houses.
Meanwhile, Uttarakhand Director General of Police (DGP) Deepam Seth on Sunday reviewed the first phase of relief and rescue operations being conducted under the direction of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in the affected areas of Dharali and Harsil.
DGP Seth held a high-level review meeting at the Police Headquarters in Dehradun to discuss the upcoming action plan. Senior police officials and team leaders from various units -including State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), fire services, Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), and telecom – who have been deployed to assist in Uttarkashi attended the meeting.
During the meeting, the DGP received detailed updates from the officials on ongoing relief and rescue efforts. He praised the work of all personnel involved in the operations at the disaster site.
