Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will lead an Indian Parliamentary Delegation to the 68th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC), scheduled to be held in Bridgetown, Barbados, from October 5 to 12, 2025.
In this regard, Birla chaired an inter-ministerial briefing meeting at Parliament House on Sunday, where officers from various ministries briefed the Presiding Officers of Legislative Bodies from across India about the conference’s agenda and events.
The delegation will include Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, along with Presiding Officers and Secretaries of State and Union Territory Legislatures, representing the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) India Region.
During the conference, Speaker Birla will address the General Assembly on the theme “The Commonwealth: A Global Partner.” Indian delegates will also participate in seven thematic workshops focusing on strengthening democratic institutions, leveraging technology for governance, climate change and health, financial transparency, separation of powers, and multilateralism.
In addition to the General Assembly and the workshops, the conference will also feature a youth roundtable. This special session will focus on empowering young people to overcome modern challenges, including gang violence and cyber-bullying, while ensuring that they remain safe and free to thrive.
CPC is one of the largest annual gatherings of parliamentarians across the CPA’s 180 branches. It serves as a key platform for dialogue on democracy, governance, and global cooperation, bringing together lawmakers from diverse regions to share experiences and strengthen partnerships.
