Lok Sabha to begin proceedings with obituary references for Shibu Soren, others

The Lok Sabha will begin its proceedings on Tuesday with obituary references for former Members of Parliament Tilakdhari Prasad Singh, Ram Rati Bind, and Shibu Soren.

According to the List of Business issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya is scheduled to move amendments to the National Anti-Doping Act, 2022, for consideration and passage. He will also introduce the National Sports Governance Bill, 2025 in the House.

The proposed Sports Governance Bill aims to “provide for the development and promotion of sports, welfare measures for sportspersons, ethical practices based on universal principles of good governance, ethics, and fair play in line with the Olympic Charter, the Paralympic Charter, international best practices, and established legal standards. It also seeks to establish a unified and effective mechanism for resolving sports grievances and disputes.”

In addition, Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal will move amendments to the Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Assembly Constituencies of the State of Goa Bill, 2024, for further consideration and passage.

The Bill aims to enable seat reservation under Article 332 of the Constitution for effective democratic participation of Scheduled Tribes in Goa. It proposes the readjustment of seats in the Goa Legislative Assembly due to the inclusion of certain communities in the Scheduled Tribes list.

Union Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will introduce the Merchant Shipping Bill, 2024, which seeks to update and unify India’s maritime laws in alignment with international treaties.

The Bill aims to consolidate and amend laws related to merchant shipping, promote the growth of Indian shipping, and ensure effective management of the Indian mercantile marine in line with national interests and international obligations.

Meanwhile, Congress MP Amar Singh and BJP MP Nishikant Dubey will present reports of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on various topics. These include reviews of government action taken on earlier recommendations related to:

  • Misappropriation of public money in the Department of Post
  • Establishment and operationalisation of Sagar Prahari Bal
  • Indo-Nepal Border Road Project
  • Manpower and logistics management in Delhi Police

The proceedings of the House are scheduled to commence at 11:00 AM today.
